HOW TO PREPARE FOR SHEARING DAY

For the safety and comfort of your animals it is important that you and your flock are properly prepared for shearing day. Here is what to expect in the days around shearing day. Once you are on the schedule, do not hesitate to contact Pony with any questions or concerns by email or call/text 917-613-3560.

Before Shearing

  • Take sheep and goats off food and water (including pasture) for at least 12 hours before shearing.

  • Animals must be tightly penned or caught up before shearing appointment. If loose animals need to be collected, there will be a round up fee added to your final bill.

  • Animals must be dry. If there is a chance of rain, drizzle or mist, bring your livestock into a shelter. Soaking wet animals could take days to dry completely, so plan accordingly.

Day of Shearing

  • Please provide a flat, level, and dry work area

  • I need access to an electrical outlet or generator within 50 feet of shearing area. If electricity is accessible further than 50 feet, please provide an extension cord.

  • You are responsible for clearing, packing, or disposing of your own fiber.

  • For camelids, please provide an able-bodied helper.

After Shearing

  • We can discuss the overall condition of your animals.

  • We will get you on the list for the next shearing season.
